Myth: Gay people molest children!

Fact:That is called Pedophile, not homosexuality. Every study ranging from the Child Welfare League to the Connecticut Correctional Institute shows that 90% of all pedophiles are heterosexual.

Most American Households are made up of a husband and wife

Myth: Most American Households are made up of a married husband and wife.

Fact:

According to the US Census Bureau, 2000 marked the first time that less than 25% (23.5%) of American households were made up of a married man, women and one or more children. In 1960, only 45% of American households fit this picture. (By 2010 that is expected to fall to 20%)
An estimated 2 million GLB people are interested in adoption
An estimated 65,500 adopted children are living with a lesbian or gay parent
Gay and lesbian parents are raising 4% of all adopted children in the U.S.
3% of foster youth are being raised in a gay or lesbian foster home, that’s more than 14,000 kids
WA has the 5th largest number of adopted children living in a gay or lesbian home nationally

Misinformation: Children who are raised by lesbian or gay parents will be subjected to harassment and will be rejected by their peers.

Fact: Children make fun of other children for all kinds of reasons: for being too short or too tall, for being too thin or too fat, for being of a different race or religion or speaking a different language. Children show remarkable resiliency, especially if they are provided with a stable and loving home environment. Children in foster care can face tremendous abuse from their peers for being parentless. These children often internalize that abuse, and often feel unwanted. Unfortunately, they do not have the emotional support of a loving permanent family to help them through these difficult times.
