Reality: Most social workers are not looking to place a child in a family that is not equipped to handle the child. The children that come into foster care are there because something bad has happened within their family. That means that they may come to you without the ability to function in what you may describe as a functional family. Yes, there maybe hard times until everyone is working together just like any other family. But with a solid support system, knowing your own limits and when to say NO, most placements are successful.
